3 signs of sensitive skin you should not ignore
Redness, Irritation, and Dehydration: How to Recognize Sensitive Skin
Many of us have experienced the three main symptoms of sensitive skin: redness, irritation, and dehydration. However, we wanted to learn more about what happens beneath the surface. Jess Anderson, Dermalogica skin therapist, revealed the secrets of sensitive skin and provided professional tips on how to stop sensitivity right at the start.
Redness
Redness is the main sign of skin sensitivity. It can manifest as small bumps, redness in certain areas of the face, or overall flushing. Causes vary: excessive exfoliation, sun exposure, allergies, or irritating cosmetic ingredients. It is important to use gentle cleansing and moisturizing products and always apply a cream with sun protection factor.
Irritation
Sensitive skin can hurt! Irritation appears as itching, stinging, or burning sensations. The main cause is a damaged lipid barrier. It is recommended to use products that help restore the protective barrier function and to avoid hot water, which removes the skin’s natural protective oils.
Dehydration
Dehydrated skin shows tightness, fine lines, or flakiness. It is important to replenish lost hydration with suitable products and avoid cleansers that dry out the skin. Drinking enough water and using alcohol-free tonics is also key.
Tip: Follow a proper skincare routine and hydrate your skin not only from the outside but also from within. Drink plenty of water!
